What is Thyroid?

Thyroid is a butterfly shaped gland in the neck located above the collarbone. It is an endocrine gland which makes hormones. Its main function is to regulate metabolism and maintain energy production in body cells.

Thyroid disease occurs when the thyroid gland doesn’t supply the proper amounts of hormones required by the body. If you are suffering from thyroid disease, your body uses energy more slowly or quickly than it should. Women are at greater risk for developing thyroid problems than men. Common reasons for thyroid malfunction include a family history, stress, heavy metal toxicity, autoimmune disease and cancer.
