Study by eVaidya.com reveals that there is alarming rise of Pre-marital Sex and contraception in India

In a recent study, conducted by evaidya.com Health Data Analytics highlighted the increased incidence of pre marital sex in India and rise of complications with use of contraceptives and unsafe contraceptive methods.
1. Pre-marital Sex trends
 In a study evaluating six month data on evaidya.com, 30% of the questions posted in public health forum and 53% of private questions are related to pre-marital sex and total of  67% of private questions are on sex and sexology related.
 
 2. Usage of Contraceptive pills in India
Study clearly shows that the usage of emergency contraceptive pills is high and moreover these are freely available in India without any Doctor prescription.  It is reported that 20% incidence of failed contraception, excess bleeding or other adverse events due to usage of emergency contraceptive pills.
 Commonly used regimens are:
           ·  Levonorgestrol only pills (most commonly used)
           ·  Yuzpee regimen (ethenyl estradiol and progesterone pills)
           ·  Mifepristone containing pills.
3. Usage of Safe contraceptive methods
 Lack of knowledge, sex education and access to services; risk misperceptions; and negative social norms, are commonly reported by young people as reasons for not using contraceptives.
4. Internet plays a major role in helping people to come out and talk about sex and sexual related problems/queries
Internet penetration in India has increased dramatically in last few years. According to IAMAI, internet users in India would reach 243 million by 2014. Internet plays a major role in Healthcare industry especially when they would like to get personal/sexual related problems or clarifications. Indians are known to be shy when reaching a Doctor for personal problems but they can reach online Doctors anonymously.
